Recording CORVUS INSANUS

April 24, 1999

Raven Mad recorded their first demo, CORVUS INSANUS, at R&M Studios in San Bernardino, CA. The demo consists of four songs and took over 10 hours to record and mix. The songs on CORVUS INSANUS are available for download on our songs page, or through mp3.com.

The name "CORVUS INSANUS" is Latin roughly translated as Raven Mad. Latin -- an obvious choice for a band with a Classics major / dead languages geek for a bass player.

Recording was a long and tedious process, but we learned a lot. Particularly, we realized that 10 hours was nowhere near as much time as we thought. William's amp was isolated in a small room while he recorded in the control booth. Mel's amp was in the hallway, plugged directly into the board, but she and Joe recorded in the main room. The demo was recorded live, with vocals and solos dubbed included later.

Joe gave a stellar performance, despite being unable to hear well through the headphones.

After the first day, we were all pretty tired. Raven Mad is pictured here with our good friend Chris Silva (center), who helped out immensely during the recording process, and Mike Moore (right), our recording engineer. We went back into the studio the next day for mixing.
